National Museum – Rio de Janeiro

The National Museum of Rio de Janeiro is located since 1892 in San Cristobal Palacio, former residence of the royal family. The National Museum of Rio de Janeiro was founded in 1818 and is surrounded by magnificent gardens of Quinta de Boa Vista, where the Zoo is also located in Rio de Janeiro.

Inside the National Museum of Rio de Janeiro raised various scientific collections as those of anthropology, botany or invertebrate. There are also the hall of paleontology, with skeletons of large mammals and dinosaurs, the hall of indigenous ethnology and archeology that dedicated.

The National Museum of Rio de Janeiro, with its 3,000 exhibits, is the oldest scientific institution in Brazil, and is attached to the Ministry of Education and the University of Rio de Janeiro.

You can also visit the beautiful botanical garden (Quinta de Boa Vista) and the largest scientific library in the city of Rio de Janeiro, the Central Library.
