The Carnival of Rio de Janeiro is celebrated in four days, 40 days before Easter. It starts on Saturday and ends on Fat Tuesday with the beginning of Ash Wednesday.
The Carnival originates from a Latin phrase “carrum novalis” (“chariot ship”), that is a kind of float with which the Romans ushered in the commemoration or from the Latin “carnem raise” (“removing the flesh”), ancient peoples ate food, drinks and had parties before entering the period of Lent, the day on which it was not possible to use the meat .
